Photovoltaic adhesive film is a thin film material used for packaging photovoltaic modules, mainly applied to module level packaging of solar panels. Photovoltaic modules are the core components of solar power generation systems, which not only support battery circuits, but also optimize the optical coupling between solar cells and solar radiation to the maximum extent possible. In addition, photovoltaic modules also serve to physically isolate solar cells and circuits, and effectively dissipate the heat generated by solar cells.
A typical photovoltaic module is a planar packaging structure that includes a frame, photovoltaic glass, packaging film, crystalline silicon cell, backplate/photovoltaic glass (single glass/double glass), and junction box. The encapsulation film bonds crystalline silicon solar cells with photovoltaic glass and backplate, providing protection for the solar cells.
The cost proportion of photovoltaic adhesive film in photovoltaic modules is about 4-7%. Although the proportion is not high, it has a significant impact on the service life and power generation efficiency of the components. To ensure stable performance of components over a lifespan of more than 25 years, encapsulation films typically require high light transmittance, high water vapor barrier, high volume resistivity, resistance to PID (potential induced decay), and good weather resistance.
Photovoltaic film is mainly divided into four types, namely transparent EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer) film, white EVA film, POE (polyolefin elastomer) film, and co extruded EPE film.
Transparent EVA film has excellent packaging performance, light transmittance, and cross-linking degree. Although the market share of transparent EVA film has declined with the diversification of packaging demand for photovoltaic modules and the continuous enrichment and iteration of photovoltaic film products, it will still be the most widely used film product in the foreseeable future. White EVA film is made by pre treating transparent EVA film with white fillers, mainly used for packaging the back of components. This type of film can effectively improve the light reflectivity, enabling solar cells to generate electricity using reflected light, thereby enhancing the power generation efficiency of the components.
POE adhesive film is a photovoltaic packaging material developed after EVA adhesive film. It has excellent electrical insulation, water vapor barrier properties, and PID resistance, and performs well in physical and mechanical properties such as high elasticity, high strength, and low temperature resistance. In addition, POE adhesive film will not decompose and will not produce corrosive acidic substances. This material is mainly used for components with high packaging requirements, such as double-sided double glass components, N-type components, and stacked tile components. Compared with EVA film, the formulation and additive system of POE film have higher technical difficulties, and it is necessary to solve process adaptability problems such as slip and bubbles in the component lamination process, which puts higher demands on the technical capabilities of manufacturers.
